Innovation 4 Live:  The impact of AI in the European Music Sector

Dynamic Pricing in Ticketing or AI in (Festival & Booking) Logistics & Marketing,  are just some of the fields where AI is already taking a prominent role in shaping our industry in Europe. What trends do we see here and can we learn from other markets and industries?

This panel is part of the LIVE MX EU Project: Innovation Mapping for the European Music Sector IMEMS - The state of AI in the European Music Sector with a special emphasis on Music Export and Live Music. It is jointly conducted by Music Tech France, Music Tech Germany and WISE

Speakers:

Johannes Everke, BDVK

Richard Kurka, ArkaiTech

Paul Geddis, Sónar

Mathilde Neu, Music Tech France

Takeaway:

There’s a lack of knowledge, or at least a lack of connection between the music industry and the tech, and more specifically AI. For our panelists, this was the toughest part; they know how to get an audience to react to new technologies and experiences, but setting up a lasting partnership is difficult, costly and tough to sell.

Sustainability was also a topic coming up quite early in the discussion, considering that AI is an energy-consuming technology, using more and more of it is questioning many event organizers, already trying to diminish their impact.

The State of AI for the European Music Sector

Speakers:

Alex Stevens, Olakala Agency | Bookr.fm

Philipp Grefer, Wise

Mathilde Neu, Music Tech Francehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEyOfqv_FLg

Takeaway

There are a lot of things that can be done better, automated, and streamlined in the organization, including details and helping out the ones hurrying from event to event. Same thing for tracking music during live events.

Bookers have so many proposals to manage, guest list management… All in all very small tasks that take up too much time. It’s still very difficult to get people from the Live industry to integrate a new software, they lack time and sometimes even interest. Integration of Innovation is tough, both speakers were coming from Live and got into innovation and are still struggling to set up new tools (on a wide scope).

SO ALIVE MUSIC CONFERENCE

Innovation 4 Live: The impact of AI in the European Music Sector

Dynamic Pricing in Ticketing or AI in (Festival & Booking) Logistics & Marketing, are just some of the fields where AI is already taking a prominent role in shaping our industry in Europe. What trends do we see here and can we learn from other markets and industries?

This panel is part of the LIVEMX EU Project: Innovation Mapping for the European Music Sector IMEMS - The state of AI in the European Music Sector with a special emphasis on Music Export and Live Music. It is jointly conducted by Music Tech France, Music Tech Germany and WISE

Speakers:

Philipp Grefer, WISE

Matthias Strobel, MusicTech Germany

Mathilde Neu, Music Tech Europe

Takayuki Suzuki, Managing Director MusicTech Japan

Takeaway

This format was way more open than the other panels we worked on, specifically to gather feedback from the room and get an idea of the difference between the Asian continent and the European one. On that last topic, we realized that some innovative solutions were well received in Japan (such as holograms for example) and way less expected in Europe.

But interestingly, when given the floor, the attendees immediately leaned towards the issues related to music rights, tracking, and copyright infringement. Such topics, while not related to Live, are still the first ones we pick up on when in these conferences. AI still concerns more than it interests.

WORKSHOP French Live Music Association

Innovation for Live Music

Meet Music Tech France and Music Tech Europe, two associations with a shared mission: creating platforms for exchange between innovators and professionals in the Music & Live sectors.

Two representatives will be present to offer an overview of the innovation ecosystem in France, its key players, the ongoing projects led by national MusicTech hubs across Europe, and the opportunities for those interested in collaborating on joint projects.

You will also get a first look at the European project driven by Music Tech France and Music Tech Europe: Innovation Mapping in the European Music Sector. Through this mapping, we aim to gather insights from the Live sector on both existing and needed innovative solutions. Your feedback on current tools will help us create a structured and comprehensive mapping for the benefit of the entire sector.

Speakers:

Yvan Boudillet, Music Tech Europe

Mathilde Neu, Music Tech France

Takeaway

The workshop went very well overall, and we felt that attendees were keen to continue the discussion.

The areas that generated the most interest were enhanced stage experiences, audience management with a specific focus on discoverability—which deserves further exploration—and a cross-cutting topic of limited resources (financial, HR, and knowledge-based) needed to see innovation initiatives through to completion. There were also insightful discussions in the first category, "programming-booking," where participants highlighted the need for better integration between tools and software, as well as for improved information-sharing within the industry regarding show performance.
